Visiting

Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre is an ideal base for outdoor activities, field studies and exploration of the Lake Districts most remote valleys and fells.

We are available to book for all, including:

​

  • Primary and Secondary school groups

  • Student outdoor activity clubs

  • Further and Higher Education institutions

  • Youth clubs and Duke of Edinburgh Award groups

  • Groups of friends and extended families

  • Amateur astronomers wanting to see a dark sky

  • Hillwalking, climbing and mountaineering clubs

  • Mountain Leader and Mountain First Aid courses

  • Cyclists, fell runners, archaeologists, geographers and orienteers

  • Coast to coast walkers on the famous Wainwright route which passes our door

  • Individuals, LGFC Members and other mixed groups

  • University field study groups

  • Church and religious groups

What you need to bring
​
  • All your own food and drinks

  • Sleeping bag (or sheet and duvet)

  • Pillow

  • Toiletries

  • Torch (advised)

  • Waterproofs and stout footwear for walking

  • 20p, 50p or £1 coins if you wish to use the payphone

  • Bring everything you are going to want/need during the trip, the nearest shops are 10miles away in Cleator Moor and the nearest pubs are 5 miles away at Ennerdale Bridge
